Phase I: Barents Sea Stratigraphic Database

The Ichron Barents Sea multi-client datasets were initiated following the announcement in 2004 by the Norwegian Government of ‘Awards in Predefined Areas 2004’ that opened up the Southern Barents Sea to licensing and drilling activity.

The main remit of the Phase I study was to re-appraise, update and generate a new stratigraphic database for the region, based on existing data and augmented by 200 new biostratigraphic analyses to increase resolution in key wells.

The study provides a unified well-by-well stratigraphic framework within which reservoir sections can be identified and correlated, enabling seismic well ties to be established and provides a template for ongoing exploration in the area. This study is complemented by reservoir quality studies and ongoing annual datapacks (2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011) as newly released well data becomes available.

Available information for the Phase I: Barents Sea Stratigraphic Database

  • Stratigraphic framework and zonation scheme.
  • Local lithostratigraphic scheme applied to all wells.
  • Stratigraphic summary chart for each of the 60 wells including age, lithostratigraphy, sample data points and biostratigraphical marker events, all set against the wireline/MWD logs.
  • Correlation panels highlighting regional thickness trends, stratigraphic breaks and hiatal surfaces within the context of the regional structural elements.
  • Tabulated stratigraphic sequence depths for each individual well.
  • ODM database deliverable (excluding log data).
  • Digital data export of stratigraphic sequences and lithostratigraphic boundaries.
  • GIS deliverable.
