Phase 1 Faroe – Shetland Stratigraphic Database (Mesozoic – Palaeozoic)

The sanction of the Clair Field development in 2001 in combination with recent discoveries in the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic has highlighted the importance of the pre-Tertiary succession in the UKCS Atlantic Margin.

The Ichron Mesozoic – Palaeozoic Faroe – Shetland Database comprises a 40 well dataset that includes the key stratigraphic reference sections throughout the basin extending from Quad 202 in the SW to Quad 209 in the NE. These wells have been subjected to biostratigraphic re-appraisal and have been interpreted on the basis of the Ichron sequence nomenclature, calibrated with the UKOOA/BGS lithostratigraphic scheme.

The study provides a stratigraphic framework with which to model the distribution of the main sand prone sequences from the Mesozoic–Palaeozoic succession including the Whiting Sandstone Unit, Haddock Sandstone Unit, Commodore Formation, Royal Sovereign Formation, Victory Formation, Rona Formation, Fair Sandstone Unit and the Clair Group sands.
